题记：这是一个普普通通的中国女孩子在九十年代末期留学日本时发生的故事。

京都。
下午两人又跑了几座寺院。晚间回到青年旅馆，在公共浴室冲了凉，披着湿漉漉的头发到一楼的娱乐室去喝茶。
榻榻米房间中央放着一张宽大的乌漆矮脚茶桌，已经围坐着几个人，有日本人，也有外国人。他们都对新加入的安妮和林欣点头微笑。
内中有两个二十六、七岁的日本男子听说林欣和安妮是从东京过来的，便高兴地说：≈ap;ldo;我们也是从东京过来的呀！≈ap;rdo;四个人于是聊了起来。
他二人是早稻田大学博士班的同学，专业是政治经济学。长方脸的叫庄司，小圆脸的是天野。这天野的模样让林欣想到小林，也是一双乌溜溜的黑眼珠，笑起来很天真可爱，只可惜年纪轻轻就有些谢顶。林欣听出天野的关西口音，就问他是哪里人。天野说他原是大阪人，后来上大学才去了东京。去东京之前，他经常来京都。
在日本，大阪和东京的关系，很类似于上海和北京：都挺自大，互相看不上。大阪人是出了名的商才，而大阪方言更是日本的漫才師（类似于相声）最常用的，像中国小品里的东北话。林欣喜欢听关西口音的漫才。虽然她只能听懂一半，但觉得如此幽默有趣的日语也只有在关西方言里才能做到。
两个人当中性情直率的大阪人天野显然是头儿。他在宾夕法尼亚大学读过硕士，得知安妮是美国人，显出非常高兴的神气。
说起今后几天各自的日程安排，天野说：≈ap;ldo;我们打算明天坐巴士去京都市，然后租辆自行车去各处走走。不然你们和我们一道吧。≈ap;rdo;安妮和林欣对视了一下，都点头说≈ap;ldo;好≈ap;rdo;。
京都有上千座寺院。光是那闻名遐迩的就可以拉出长长的单子：清水寺、金閣寺、銀閣寺、三十三間堂、龍安寺、東寺、下鴨神、醍醐寺、平等院≈ap;hellip;≈ap;hellip;不住上个一年半载的,只能是蜻蜓点水、走马观花。
京都城是仿照着隋唐时代的洛阳和长安的格局建的，整个城市的街道非常规整。连林欣这样的超级路盲都觉得找路不难。
他们先去了祇園。来京都前，在安妮的强烈推荐下，林欣刚读了去年出的《oirs of a isha》。据说在西方很轰动，可是林欣却不以为然。她觉得这本书的出名和《wild swans》一样，只是满足了西方人对于神秘东方的一种猎奇心理。
他们推着自行车在街上慢慢地走着，安妮突然指着街对面店铺门口经过的两个盛装的和服女子：≈ap;ldo;快看！艺妓！≈ap;rdo;随即把自行车停住，从包里抓出相机就拍。林欣也拿了相机去拍。天野和庄司在一边笑着说：≈ap;ldo;这不是什么艺妓！不过是游客打扮成艺妓的模样去拍照罢了。真正的艺妓可不是那么容易能够碰见的！≈ap;rdo;
安妮和林欣听了都有些失望。她们只得草草拍了些祇園的街景，就直奔了清水寺。
听天野说，清水寺是京都最古老的寺院，而最有名的莫过于大殿前的悬空≈ap;ldo;舞台≈ap;rdo;，由139根巨大的圆木支撑着。庄司和天野告诉两个女孩，日语里有一句谚语，叫做≈ap;ldo;清水の舞台から飛び下りる≈ap;rdo; （从清水的舞台上跳下去）。
≈ap;ldo;那是什么意思呢？≈ap;rdo;林欣忙问。
≈ap;ldo;就是下定决心的意思。≈ap;rdo;天野说，又问安妮：≈ap;ldo;英文里有没有类似的说法呢？≈ap;rdo;
安妮想了半天，摇摇头，去问林欣：≈ap;ldo;中文呢？≈ap;rdo;
林欣也眨着大眼睛想了半天才说：≈ap;ldo;好像也只有≈ap;ldo;破釜沉舟≈ap;rdo;比较贴切≈ap;rdo;。
看着安妮几个人一脸茫然，林欣于是说：≈ap;ldo;这里也有个故事，等晚上回去喝茶的时候再讲给你们听吧。≈ap;rdo;
游过清水寺，四个人都饿了。那万事通的天野带着他们去了一家叫做≈ap;ldo;あらた≈ap;rdo;的お好み焼き（什锦煎饼）店。据说是他吃过的京都最好吃的一家。
店堂不大，布置得十分朴素整洁。二十来张小方桌子，每张桌面上嵌着一块黑色的铁板。
他们点了猪肉。林欣还是第一次吃お好み焼き，就注意观察天野怎么行事。
天野先在铁板上倒了些植物油，左右开弓用两把带着木柄的小铁铲将油分布均匀，
然后他用小铲子把搅拌好的≈ap;ldo;生地≈ap;rdo;（用だし（用海带、鰹節制成的汤汁）、芋头汁、盐和水等调好的面粉）和切成细丝的卷心菜铺在烧热的铁板上，细心地做成一张小薄饼的形状，在上面加上猪肉薄片，在猪肉片上又盖上些≈ap;ldo;生地≈ap;rdo;。食材在铁板上发出刺啦刺啦的声音。等了两、三分钟，那天野再次左右开弓，用小铲子将薄饼利落地翻了个个儿，让盖着猪肉的那一面贴着铁板。
安妮和林欣都看得津津有味，那天野也很得意，看看手表说：≈ap;ldo;猪肉的这一面要多烧个二十分钟。≈ap;rdo;他笑咪咪地问安妮：≈ap;ldo;安妮小姐以前吃过お好み焼き吗？≈ap;rdo;
≈ap;ldo;我在东京吃过お好み焼き！≈ap;rdo;安妮对≈ap;ldo;吃≈ap;rdo;有着空前的兴趣。她经常告诉林欣新发现的好吃的餐馆。林欣每次听了只能微笑。
≈ap;ldo;你在东京吃的是关东风味的还是关西风味的？≈ap;rdo;天野又问。
≈ap;ldo;难道还有不同吗？≈ap;rdo;安妮吃惊地问。
≈ap;ldo;当然了！≈ap;rdo;天野和庄司几乎是异口同声地说。
≈ap;ldo;快讲讲！≈ap;rdo;安妮催促着，连林欣也睁大了眼睛等着听下文。
≈ap;ldo;庄司，你来讲讲？≈ap;rdo;天野看着庄司。
≈ap;ldo;还是你讲。≈ap;rdo;庄司腼腆地笑了笑。
那天野立刻眉飞色舞地讲起来：≈ap;ldo;要解释这个，先得跟你们说说关东和关西。关东和关西的分界说起来很复杂。大概是以箱根为界（足柄峠）。箱根以西是关西，以东就是关东。像我们现在来玩的京都就属于关西。≈ap;rdo;
≈ap;ldo;东京属于关东，对吧。≈ap;rdo;安妮插嘴道。
≈ap;ldo;没错！≈ap;rdo;天野现在完全把目光集中在安妮的脸上。≈ap;ldo;在口味上来说，关东偏咸，关西偏淡。你看我们吃的这个お好み焼き，关西的做法一定要在≈ap;ldo;生地≈ap;rdo;里加长芋的汁，为了把口味调淡。而关东是没有这个的。≈ap;rdo;
安妮听了有点不以为然，笑着说：≈ap;ldo;这么微妙的别，你不说，我绝对吃不出来。≈ap;rdo;
天野很严肃地说：≈ap;ldo;别当然不止这个。最后吃之前加的ソース（调味料）也很关键。关西和关东调味料的口味是完全不一样的！≈ap;rdo;
庄司也在一边点头附和着：≈ap;ldo;是的是的，完全不一样！。≈ap;rdo;
安妮看了看二人，又拿起桌角的ソース，仔细去看那瓶子上的说明。
天野看了看表，用小铲子把お好み焼き又翻了个个儿，再很快地翻过来，说了声：≈ap;ldo;差不多了。≈ap;rdo;就从安妮手里接过瓶子，把暗褐色的ソース小心地均匀倒在お好み焼き的表面。最后挤上マヨネーズ(蛋黄醬)，呈细丝状，让完工的お好み焼き看起来像个巧克力蛋糕。
≈ap;ldo;看起来真好吃啊（美味しそう）！≈ap;rdo;安妮和林欣都学着日本女孩子的夸张做派。
庄司在一边补充道：≈ap;ldo;这マヨネーズ也不是所有的地方都用。≈ap;rdo;
田野接过话头：≈ap;ldo;对呀对呀，同是关西，我们大阪用，而神户就不用。≈ap;rdo;
安妮和林欣都只得赞叹日本文化的博大精深。
≈ap;ldo;我喜欢日本的文化。≈ap;rdo;天野一边将做好的お好み焼き切成四份，分盛在四个小盘子里，一面说：≈ap;ldo;不过没去美国之前，我只对欧美的东西感兴趣。≈ap;rdo;
≈ap;ldo;你喜欢美国吗？≈ap;rdo;安妮问，一面把放了お好み焼き的小盘子递给每个人。
≈ap;ldo;怎么说呢？≈ap;rdo;天野想了想，才接着说：≈ap;ldo;我比较喜欢美国人的性格。比较积极（前向き），却又比较id-back。不像我们日本人。你看，我们是世界第二大经济强国，可是你问问周围的日本人，他们一点都不觉得自己rich！≈ap;rdo;
≈ap;ldo;你觉得那是为什么？≈ap;rdo;安妮盯着天野问道。
≈ap;ldo;我觉得那是因为日本人什么都想争第一！所以活得特别辛苦！≈ap;rdo;
≈ap;ldo;在美国那两年，我才意识到日本文化里好的东西。≈ap;rdo;说到这，他第一次把目光转向林欣：≈ap;ldo;林桑来日本后，也一定对中国的文化认识更深刻了吧。≈ap;rdo;林欣有点脸红，她过去的一年里为课业和打工每天疲于奔命，根本没想过这些问题。≈ap;ldo;将来你有机会，也应该去美国看看！美国的世界第一，有她的道理。≈ap;rdo;
安妮很兴奋地对林欣说：≈ap;ldo;对呀，你应该去我们美国！≈ap;rdo;
≈ap;ldo;不过嘛，≈ap;rdo;天野很严肃地继续说：≈ap;ldo;我认为从长远来说，你还是应该回到自己的国家去。≈ap;rdo;
